Before Hurricane Irma’s arrival, several residents of Florida evacuated, while some braced for impact. Although not in the evacuation zones, some residents still needed to take necessary precautions to safeguard against the storm’s damage. Many people had left their pets behind and had evacuated their homes. One such pet roamed around searching for a safe shelter in Central Florida.
A woman was preparing her yard for the storm when she noticed the skinny white stray dog across the street. She called out to the dog, who promptly trotted right over and onto her porch. The intelligent dog even looked both ways before she crossed the street to observe any incoming traffic.
The stray dog looked weak, so the woman got a bowl of dog food and some water. The poor thing ate it with ferocity. She went through three bowls of food and two cups of water before taking a breath.
Since then, the condition of the dog has started to get better. She got pretty snuggly after being fed. The woman knew she could not leave the dog outside with the storm coming, so she called the dog inside her home.
The dog hesitated for a moment, but then she trotted inside. The stray dog was in terrible condition. She had dirt or feces-covered all over her body and smelled awful. The woman could find massive mats behind the fur, which must have been painful for her. Even the paw of the poor dog was bleeding.
So, she attempted a bath which did not go well. She was scared of the water and barked and cried when the tub was filled with water. The woman could only clean the top of her back before both of them took a break.
It took a total of 4 hours of cutting and scrubbing for the dog to get into a reasonable state. First, however, the fur where the tar was stuck needed to be shaved away. Next, the woman named her Amaterasu or Amy in short. The dog had already started to respond to the name as if she was born with it.
